This is our Day One thought provoking video and a test that everyone can access our blog. Please click on comment and share one AHA from this short video.
(Ok, it's our first class and I am already crying! ) How true it is that we get so caught up in such petty things day in and day out, that we forget to really live the day,,, to just BE in the moment and appreciate it.... appreciate how lucky we are. We complain about our jibs, but should appreciate that we HAVE a job. I complain to my husband about things in the house that need fixing, but then stop to remember that there are people who live in cardboard boxes on the street! We go to concerts and watch the performance through a video screen instead of fully participating in the experience. Wow, wake up and smell the coffee... life is way to short to miss what's truly important... God's gifts... and the greatest of these is LOVE.
Oh, and I am Dianna,,, wife of a great carpenter (who I will try not to bug about finishing our house!), mother of three grown children who make me very proud and teacher of 3rd grade students at a wonderful small school called Sugar Camp Elementary (in Sugar Camp, WI) near Rhinelander.
Hello, I am Kelly. I live just outside of Green Bay, WI and I have been teaching since 2004 and coaching girls basketball since 2002. The last 6 years I have taught middle school children. As I watched this video, I thought of many of my students. Middle school is a tough age: cliques, high expectations, cattiness, puberty, etc. Many of these students get caught up with the "coffee cups" and not the coffee. Friends change, often because of appearance or being in the "in" crowd. Even though some students may have a hard time understanding this video, I think it would be a great tool to share with them.
I also thought about my own life. My group of friends range from teachers to small business owners, to paramedics/government workers. We often get together and tend to complain about our various jobs, home life, etc. This video is again a reminder to be happy and enjoy the moment. Being with friends is a joy in itself, it is a chance to relax and get away from the pressures of the job - not a time to complain about it!
Hi Kelly, My son's girlfriend just got a job teaching middle school health in Rhinelander and I showed her this video clip. She agrees with you that this could easily be adapted for middle school students! :)
I am glad you shared the video with her! If she is a brand new teacher, those first days can be overwhelming (which I am sure you know!), so something like this may be great for both her nd her students!
